August 2000

August 20th

Ok, Ok... nearly a whole month since the last diary entry... sorry!

So, what's been going on? Well, last weekend we went to see Jane McDonald at the BIC - she was in with Joe Pasquale who was an absolute pile of crap! Jane on the other hand was brilliant. Paul and I were in the front row and, even though I did get distracted by the nice young male dancers on occasions(!), we both really enjoyed it. I got a couple of nice smiles from Jane and a really sweet wink during "You are My World" which is my favourite of her songs - have you heard the dance version?. Apparently, she has been shopping where I work several times in the last couple of weeks... one of my cashiers said to her "You must get mistaken for that Jane McDonald quite often!!"  DOH!

For two days at the beginning of this week I was on an interviewing skills course in London. Paul came up too, so that he could visit his Mum during the day while I was working. We stayed in a four star Hilton hotel for £25 each (normal tariff is £234!!) The joys of knowing a travel agent!! As per usual, we got a comment from the receptionist..."And it was a double room you wanted and not a twin?!" "Yes love we're a couple of poofters". We went to see "Les Misérables" on the Monday night - I just LOVE that show - its about the fifth time I have seen it I think!

Just found out Steps are on at G.A.Y. in October - guess where we will be going!! :-)

Only seven days until I have TWO WHOLE weeks off work!! YEAY!

August 26th "I've met Jane McDonald!!"

Jane was in the shop again today and this time I was there too! As she was packing up her grub at the checkout, I popped over to say hello and to say how much we had enjoyed the show. Hey, she is SUCH a nice lady!! As she turned to thank me for the compliment, she kind of paused, frowned then grinned and said - "I remember you! You were in the front row and I winked and grinned at you!" I was pretty surprised that she remembered after a fortnight, but she went on to say "As soon as I did it I thought to myself 'God how forward!" . Her down to earth and friendly image really is her and not just a "front" - she even made the effort to come over and say goodbye when she left the shop.

Awww, I was all excited like a little kid - but it turned an otherwise crappy Bank Holiday Saturday at work into something a bit more special!

Oh another nice thing to happen this week was a cheque for £500 from those nice people at Scottish Widows. They have sold out to Lloyds TSB and gave me the money as "compensation". Unfortunately, I do have a bit of a "thing" against Lloyds as they arranged with my doctor to do an HIV test without asking my permission first when I was arranging life cover for my mortgage last year. Needless to say I cancelled the doctor's appointment they made for me and cancelled the life cover too!
