September 2000
September 4th
I have decided that, for some reason, this time of year is not a good time for me. Just feel really depressed and lethargic. Paul says I was like it this time last year too. Don't know why - I am currently in the middle of two weeks holiday from work so I should be a happy chappy - but just don't seem to be able to pin on the happy smiley Andy face at the moment.
Finally got the kitchen decorated at the weekend. The stencilled ducks and the border featuring geese in fields have at last gone and been replaced by a nice modern terracotta colour. Need to get round to ordering the lighting and flooring now. Oh, nearly forgot... ordered Sky digital at the weekend - its being fitted on 19th September - something to look forward to - Hoorah!!
September 17th Petrol strikes
Hectic week at work this week - the petrol shortage has meant that people in Bournemouth have suddenly turned into gangs of hoarders determined to track down and buy every loaf of bread and pint of milk in the county!
I had to drive to Bracknell on Tuesday and had to do so at 60mph all the way up the M3 in order to try to save the last fumes of petrol in my tank. I just about made it home!
Work on Wednesday was SO weird... I was running the branch and we just got invaded by the human equivalent of a swarm of locusts sweeping everything off the shelves in their desperation to eat! Just how many loaves of bread can one person eat a day... and, come to think of it, why is bread so important anyway?! Add to this a visit by Environmental Health (to investigate an accident with a driver a few months back), the Operations Manager arriving unannounced and BOTH goods lifts breaking down (so we had no way of getting stock to and from the warehouse) and I think you will agree it was quite a, how shall I put it, er... challenge!!
I think the main problem is that no matter how much milk people want to buy... a cow can only produce two udder's worth of milk a day!! Poor cows! Sore udders! I had visions of the farmers beating extra milk out of them!!
Two days until I have Sky Digital installed - hmmm, wonder if the guy that comes to put it in will be good looking!!
September 30th
Ok, first things first - the guys that came to fit the Sky system were not remotely shaggable!
What have I been up to then? Well, we went to see Graham Norton in Southampton last week - it was just SOOOOO brilliant! - just as filthy as you would expect him to be! There was a group of people in the front from Bournemouth so there were plenty of jokes at the expense of our town!
The WestQuay shopping centre opened in Southampton last Thursday - its well worth a visit if you are a shopaholic - a GREAT new John Lewis department store and the Waitrose isn't bad either! (Biased? Me? Never! But go there and spend loads as it will help towards my bonus!)
New Friends! Went out for a drink with a couple we met on line on Friday - Mark and Marc. (I know - it's a bit confusing!) Despite being a bit nervous to start with (Aaah!) we all got on really well. They are really nice guys and Marc shares Paul's love of Victoria Wood. After a few drinks they spent until nearly 3am reciting sketches to Mark and I! We loved it - honest!! :-) Hope to see lots more of them! The sketches and the two Mark(c)s!)
Going to see Steps at GAY next week!!
